What are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a cover placed over the entire tooth's surface. A crown is used to change the shape and colour of a tooth to aesthetically improve a patient’s smile. Additionally, crowns are used for a tooth that has been weakened or damaged by fractures, decay, cracks, large fillings or root canal therapy. Crowns are also used to improve the appearance of natural teeth that are mispositioned or discoloured.
How will a Dental Crown be applied to my teeth?
There will be two appointments needed to restore a tooth with a dental crown. At the first appointment, the dentist prepares and reshapes the tooth. An impression of your tooth is created, which will be used to construct a model of the mouth, including the prepared tooth. The dentist then prepares a temporary crown and places it on the tooth to protect it between visits, while the new crown is being formed.
At the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is placed into the tooth. Afterwards, the bite, fit, shape and shade are checked. The dental crown will be shown to the patient prior to any final cementation to ensure that the patient is satisfied with the final look.
What are Dental Bridges?
A dental bridge is used to replace a missing tooth by joining two adjacent teeth or dental implants together. A bridge is permanent and cannot be removed. A dental bridge is used to fill in the space of missing teeth, prevent remaining teeth from shifting position, and allows patients to chew and speak properly.
